On the weekend of May 8 and 9, Team Nijmegen took part in the annual Batavierenrace, the largest relay race in the world. With great enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and team spirit, our 28 runners and volunteers traveled to take on this special challenge together.
The Batavierenrace is known for its unique combination of athletic performance and camaraderie. Spread across various stages, varying in distance and difficulty, our top athletes gave it their all. From the first kilometers in the late evening hours to the final meters towards the finish line, there was hard running, enthusiastic cheering, and above all, a lot of laughter and enjoyment.
Despite the changing conditions along the way, the atmosphere remained excellent. As always, the logistics required the necessary creativity and flexibility, but thanks to the efforts of all participants, the driver, navigators, and supporters, the weekend ran smoothly. Between stages, there was ample opportunity to get to know each other better, exchange experiences, and enjoy together the unique atmosphere that the Batavierenrace brings every year.
From a sporting perspective, Team Nijmegen can be proud of its performance. With 6th place in the university competition and a time of 13:09:43, Team Nijmegen has performed above expectations. All runners completed their stages with great dedication and perseverance. The final result was a fine team performance in which collaboration was more important than the final ranking.
A particular highlight of the weekend was the number of personal records set. No fewer than 13 runners managed to set a PR during their leg. This underscores not only the strong individual performances but also how motivating the atmosphere within the team was.
After the finish, the sporting part was traditionally concluded with the festival, where participants from all over the country gathered to celebrate the race. This brought a successful weekend to an end, full of sporting challenges, new memories, and strengthened friendships. Team Nijmegen has built such a strong bond in 2026 that around ten runners have even registered for MudMasters in Biddinghuizen.
On behalf of Team Nijmegen, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this successful weekend: the runners, drivers, organizers, supporters, and sponsors. Thanks to your dedication and enthusiasm, the Batavierenrace was once again an unforgettable experience.
We are already looking forward to the next edition!
