batavierenrace

The Batavierenrace is the largest relay race in the world, with participants running from Nijmegen to Enschede every year.

The route runs from the center of Nijmegen, through Germany, the quiet Achterhoek and the Oude Markt in the heart of Enschede to the campus of the University of Twente.

The total walking distance is over 175 kilometers and is divided into 25 stages (16 men's and 9 women's stages). Approximately 8,500 athletes participate each year, all of them students; it is to this enormous number of participants that the Batavierenrace owes its entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

In short, an annual mammoth event with a unique character: a mixture of top sports and toiling recreation!

The finish of the Batavierenrace around 6 p.m. is followed annually by the largest student party in the Benelux on the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. An estimated 13,000 students go wild at various locations on campus!
