On Friday the 1th of May 2019 the starting short of the biggest, most fun and exciting relay race in the world will sound: the Batavierenrace. The route runs from the centre of Nijmegen via Germany and the rustic Achterhoek to the campus of the University of Twente. The total running distance is over 180 kilometers and is divided into 25 stages (17 men’s and 8 women’s stages).
Almost 8000 enthusiastic students from all Dutch universities and various colleges take part every year. In addition, several hundred foreign students from countries such as Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany and Belgium are involved every year. The Batavierenrace owes its mention in the Guinness Book of Records to this huge number of participants. The Batavierenrace is also the largest student sports event in the Netherlands.
After the finish, the biggest student party in the Netherlands, with around 13,000 visitors, will break loose on the campus of the University of Twente. The Batavierenrace is a yearly recurring mammoth event with a unique mix of top-class sports and soggy recreation!
